Director, composer and writer Arsenije Jovanovic won an award at New York Festival’s International Radio Programs & Promos Competition for the piece entitled “Sogno di un automobile,” according to Avant art magazin.

Jovanovic won the bronze radio award in a field of participants from 36 countries, where he was the only one from the former Yugoslavia.

WASHINGTON – Prima donna of the Belgrade opera and world-renowned mezzo-soprano Jadranka Jovanovic staged a concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington on Monday with a varied setlist including arias and songs from Serbia and other countries.

In the hour-long concert entitled “A Rainbow of Music Serbian Quartet,” she was accompanied by baritone Dimitrije Lazic, and pianists Nikola Rackov and Djordje Nesic.

They performed works of Mokranjac, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and several standards.

То је пример позитивне стране глобализације: да сви осећамо да смо део шире целине, али је потребно и да стално будемо свесни које су њене добре, а које лоше стране...

Невелика редакција од 13 новинара прославила је у четвртак по подне, са важним гостима, велики јубилеј: 70 година откако се 26. марта 1943, на радио апаратима, уз повремено крчање, први пут чуло „Овде Вашингтон, Глас Америке”.

Тако је започео програм намењен Југославији, на врхунцу Другог светског рата, када је радио био главни извор вести са широког светског фронта и глас наде да ће снаге добра победити силе мрака. А кад је победа извојевана, Глас Америке је добродошао иза „гвоздене завесе”.

Branislav Bala

Branislav Bane Bala (writer/director/producer) is a Serbian filmmaker based in New York City. He holds an MFA in film directing from Columbia University.

His short films have played worldwide. His short film Shades of Gray was distributed by Doug Liman’s Hypnotic Releasing, and his commercial spot Magic was a Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker’s Award selection. He co-produced two low-budget features: Across Dot Avenue and Romeo and Juliet in Yiddish. The latter was invited for a week-long run at New York’s famous Lincoln Center and opened to rave reviews. He has taught various film classes at the University of Hartford, The New School, Art Institute of Austin, Ramapo College and was the chair of the Film Department at Katharine Gibbs School. He often collaborates with his brother Nemanja. Their latest collaboration, a feature film “Love Hunter” premiered at the prestigious Warsaw Film Festival and was “among its highlights”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
